HAVE YOUR SAY
Letters
Dear Editor
When travelling towards Olney, the view is one of beauty. I wonder if given the choice between wind farm or nuclear power station on that site, the feeling would be quite so strong. If we use electrical power ourselves we must take responsibility for its generation.

In all honesty I can no longer reference Victor Meldrew, it would now not be accurate of me to say “I don’t believe it”.
Last year, outraged by the Lib Dems Olney newsletter Focus, I wrote to the Phonebox to vent my disbelief. Lib Dems, in a weak third place position were cynically overstating their parliamentary prospects, positioning themselves as the only centre-left party with the chance of defeating the Conservatives in this constituency. Clearly the purpose of which was to hoodwink Labour or Green supporters into voting tactically Lib Dem. Despite my and others objections published in the Phonebox, they just kept on repeating the Fib:
“It’s a 2 horse race”
“In Milton Keynes North it’s between Jill Hope (Lib Dems) and the Cons. No other result is
possible” Olney Focus
“Voters will be faced with a choice, either a Conservative MP or Jill Hope from the Liberal
Democrats.” “Labour are a poor third in Milton Keynes North.” Cllr Sam Potts, Phonebox “It is very clear that the General Election whenever it comes will be a close fight between
myself and the Conservatives” Jill Hope, Olney Focus
“Voting Labour could let the Conservatives win.” Olney Focus (May)
All dishonest spin. The result here in Milton Keynes North was, the Fib Dems again came in third behind Labour. Just how many voters the Fib Dems succeeded in hoodwinking we have no way of knowing.
But instinctively people don’t like spin and I think this was reflected here in the Olney council election results. Compared to 2008, in line with the national trend, the Conservative Party vote increased by 1340 votes against the national trend, the Labour Party vote increased by 416 votes, whilst the Fib Dem vote actually fell by 78! In Olney the Fib Dems still polled ahead of Labour, but the writing is on the wall!
Going forward, with the Lib Dems now joining with the Conservatives, all bets are off!
Best regards
David Trend Olney Labour supporter

Scooters
On Friday 4th June I took two of my children, with their scooters to the rec. Having got my youngest changed in the park for karate, we walked out of the other gate forgetting all about the scooters. I didn't remember till Sunday when I raced down to look for them. My son’s clothes were there but no scooters. I’m hoping someone has taken them home for safe keeping and will contact the Phonebox after having read this and return them to two very upset children.
