Sherington Pre-school
WE HAVE HAD a very busy month, starting with a surprise visitor from Australia. ‘Dancing Donna’ presented a fun and fitness programme to music, to which the children participated in song and movement. Beginning with a yoga warm up, followed by some dazzling magic tricks, which they particularly enjoyed! The children sang hello in Spanish, French and Chinese, and finally they were encouraged to express themselves in creative movement and dance. There were lots of smiles and laughter, and the magic left them bewildered and enthralled!
To support our ‘On the Farm’ theme Mr Sharpe, Mr Line and Mr Lusted brought their red, blue and green tractors to the village hall car park. The children went out to inspect the big and small wheels and discovered how very noisy tractors can be!
Jane the librarian from Newport Pagnell Library came to read some exciting stories to the children, which they all enjoyed.
This term we welcome Megan, Polly and Ben and hope they have lots of fun and happy times with us. Our current topic is ‘Growth and Change’. The children are exploring how seeds grow and examining objects using magnifying glasses and a microscope. We have some promising scientists!
Our next Open Morning is on Thursday 24th June from 9.30 to 11.30. If you are interested in your child attending a small rural pre school, please come along and join in the fun and activities on the day. We would love to see you.

Stoke Goldington Pre-School recently enjoyed a special drop-in visit from our local Police Community Support Officers, Kevin and Chantelle. The children were fascinated by their uniforms, handcuffs, and batons – in fact our Deputy Playleader was rapidly handcuffed much to the amusement of the children and then little Jesse had a go in them too. The highlight of the visit was a chance for the children to sit in their police car outside and watch and hear the sirens flashing!
There is also much alien activity at Pre-School at the moment as the children are enjoying the topic of ‘Outer Space.’ They have been creating aliens by blow painting and making planets with marbling ink. A life-size astronaut has also been in production along with a large-scale 3D space ship! The children recently spent some time preparing sandwiches for a special outdoor ‘space picnic’ and they will soon be experimenting with layering liquids, messy but incredible fun!
Thank you to everyone who came along to our Open Morning last month, which proved very popular with over a dozen parents attending. Many children enjoyed the facilities and activities on offer and we received several
positive comments about our Pre-School. Hopefully we can convert some of these visitors from the Open Morning to more names on our register from Autumn onwards.
Pre-School will be out and about in Stoke this month for our annual Barnardo’s Big Toddle activity on Wednesday 16th June. This is when the children are sponsored to do a half mile ‘toddle’ around the playing field and part of the village with lots of fun activities along the way. We are pleased to support this nationwide event for the fourth year now as it’s a great way to help a well-deserved charity and offer a very fun morning for children and parents alike.
Next month sees one of our biggest annual fundraisers – the Summer Fun Day on Saturday 10th July, 2.30pm on the playing field and in the Village Hall. There will be plenty for all the family to enjoy, from stalls to fun competitions; cream teas to ice creams; face painting to a bouncy castle – plus, new for this year, quad bike rides for children to enjoy.
