Sierra Leonean speaker inspires AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Olney-Newton Link on Wednesday 6th May was given a most inspiring and supportive address by Mr Ade Adamy, who is Chair of the Sierra Leonean Diaspora Network. His address was also heard by a number of Sierra Leonean visitors who were a most welcome addition to the audience. Mr Adamy gave an enlightening history of the country, the derivation of the name for the country,
and also the opportunity to improve our understanding between us. His address gave us a broader understanding of his country from a journalist and historian’s viewpoint, illustrating the fall and rise of
the country from well before the civil war through to
the present day, with an honest appraisal of events in
between. Reports on other activities included the links
between the churches and also the three schools in Olney
and Lavendon School with schools in Newton. The conclusion
of the formal part of the evening was followed by continued informal discussions exchanging ideas and contacts which we trust will lead to enhanced developments in the linking process. The Link would welcome further members to share in our aims and projects, whilst learning about life in one of the poorest countries of the world.
