Michael Farrer Award 2009
On Friday 20th March Lavendon School welcomed Mr Ron Blomfield and Mr Mike Berry, Royal British Legion, into school to present the Michael Farrer Award 2009. This year the topic was to choose a country and create a piece of informative work about it.

Many excellent drawings, models, and presentations were brought into school to be judged. Ron Blomfield always finds it difficult to choose the winning exhibits and this year was no exception.
The winners were Oliver George, Class 4 (Powerpoint presentation on Wales) and Nell Maguire (poster on the Lake District) Class 2.
The Michael Farrer Award has taken place at Lavendon School for 19 years and has always been very popular with the children and Staff.
School visitors
We had three important visitors to school during March. Sharon Scott, Director of MK Children and Young People’s Services came to visit the school; then we had a much welcomed visit from the Honourable Claude Kamamda, MP for Newton in Sierra Leone.
We were then delighted to hear that David Bell, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Children, Schools and Families would like to visit the school. The visit took place on
Thursday 26th March. David Bell met with Janet Howe, Headteacher, and Sue Usher, Chair of Governors as well as staff and pupils. He walked round school speaking with the children from each class. He joined the staff for morning coffee and then went on to meet with the School Council.
Open morning
This year our open morning will be held in mid September. Everyone is welcome to come along. Parents of children hoping to
start at Lavendon School both now and in the future are invited to come and have a look round and speak with the Headteacher. Once we have chosen the date we will include it in our News from Lavendon School article in the Phonebox.
