Olney Bowls Club
Trip to South Africa
Fifteen members of Olney Bowling Club teamed up with 12 other UK bowlers on a magical three week trip to South Africa recently.
The Olney members were: Ken and Anne Beard, Mike and Karen Smith, Gerald and Jean Wilson, Ken and Barbara Goodwin, Bob and Carol Megeary, Gordon and Teresa Bailey, Aubrey Green, Eileen Smith and Ken Mynard.

Barbara Goodwin recalls some of their wonderful experiences:
We went to South Africa arranged by Ken and Anne
And all had a fabulous time and came back with a lovely tan
There was Eileen and Aubrey, Karen, Mike and Jean and Gerry Teresa and Gordon and Carole and Bob Megeary
There was also three Kennys – Mynard, Goodwin and Beard Anne and Barb were there too, it was a team to be feared!
Cape Town was our first stop, staying at the Ritz hotel
We went up Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope as well
We travelled along the Garden Route, beautiful view on every side Stopping at Knysna and Mossel Bay with Dani our driver and Athena our guide
We went down to the Cango caves, rode an ostrich on a farm Had a scary ride at the Game Reserve but never came to harm!
We saw penguins on Bolders beach and took a river ferry cruise Tasted young berry liquor and jam and had plenty of booze!
On to Durban for our final week, some went on a Safari trip
The rest of us to the Blue Marlin to chill out, sun bathe and have a dip
We visited bowls clubs on our way and they looked after us a treat The team we had did very well and they were never beat!
Our final days were busy bowling, horse racing and such
And thinking back and reflecting we all enjoyed ourselves so much
So all our thanks go to Ken and Anne for a truly wonderful time Our gratitude goes to you from the tourists of 2009.
