Summer Leys
Your Local Nature Reserve
Hardwater Road, roundabout at Wollaston, Northants. off the A509
Something new is happening at The Wildlife Trusts Summer Leys...there is a new group of enthusiastic people called The Friends of Summer Leys.
What started out as gravel extraction in the valley, left a large area that included fresh water lakes, great wetland habitat which the council ran as a nature reserve. In 2008 the local Wildlife Trust took it over and after assessing the needs of the area, started making many
Spring at Tickford Park
The end of the Spring term was celebrated in style with our usual Easter celebrations, a visit from the Rev Beverley telling the Easter story, the disco greatly enjoyed by all and on the last day of term our annual Easter egg hunt laid on by the Friends of Tickford Park. This involved the children searching for a ticket hidden in the school grounds, which they were then able to exchange for a chocolate egg. Many thanks go to the Friends for organising this again. The day ended with an Easter bonnet parade on the playground in brilliant sunshine watched by many of our parents. The variety of homemade hats was amazing and term finished on a high note.
We look forward to the Summer term with all its fun and outdoor activities.

improvements both for the wildlife and visitors. The local volunteer management group work hard at keeping track on the diverse nature of the reserve and how the area can be further improved to encourage nature. This includes monitoring birds, animals, insects, plants, water life...
The latest innovation is the formation of The Friends of Summer Leys. As part of The Wildlife Trust, the group hope to encourage local people to become involved by attending guided walks, children’s pond dipping and bug id, perhaps becoming a friend themselves and having a say on the future of Summer Leys.
We hope to raise money to help with further improvements and have already had a successful Easter Monday Special for the kids and our very first Open Day.
There is a series of events coming up and we would love to see you there. Make a note in your diary and contact us for further information on, and to book any of the following:
