Thank you to everyone who took part in the recent Bags 2 School campaign – we collected an incredible 1180kg of unwanted but useable clothing and bedding and raised £472 by taking part. This activity seems to be very popular with both parents and villagers so we are planning to run it again in Autumn this year and Spring 2010 – so keep putting unwanted items to one side ready for the next clear out!
April has been a very busy month for the children with lots of time spent outdoors enjoying the warmer weather. They have been planting trays of cress, and taking a look at the countryside in springtime. The children have made some beautiful Easter Cards decorated with rabbits and coloured in pictures of Easter eggs to take home to their families. The budding chefs among them have got stuck in making Easter biscuits, (I’m not sure if many of the biscuits lasted long enough to be taken home, most were devoured in the playground after school!).
Its Steam Rally time of year again and Pre- School will be stationed near the entrance
area, so make sure you come along and see us, younger visitors will also have the opportunity to meet the loveable Stokie Bear.
Once again, we will be running The Great Stoke Goldington Sunflower Growing Competition! Buy a sunflower seed for just £1 to take home to grow and when it has reached the sky you can send us a photo of it and the person with the tallest sunflower will win a prize! See if you can beat last years record sunflower that grew to a height of 12 foot 2 inches. We would love as many children and grown-ups as possible to take part so please come along to join in.
The Pre-School Committee are running a ‘Car Rally Treasure Hunt’ to raise funds, on Sunday June 7th, this is open to anybody who would like to take part, please see our advert on page (?) for details.
Also, next month Pre-School is taking part in the Barnardo’s Big Toddle on Wednesday 24th June. This comprises a sponsored
half mile ‘toddle’ for all the children around the Rec with the route featuring fun activities and games along the way. Funds
raised from sponsorship are split between Barnardo’s & Pre-School. If you know any children taking part please sponsor them for this worthy cause, and look out for a crocodile line of little walkers in the village on 24th June!
There’s one further date for your diary – the Summer Fun Day on Saturday 11th July at the Rec & Village Hall. This really popular annual event is open to everyone to enjoy and will feature a Pimms bar, BBQ, loads of children’s games, activities and competitions, stalls, toddler play area and cream teas!
P.S. Don’t forget Pre-School are holding an Open Morning on Wednesday 13th May, for any prospective families. If you are interested in a place for your child, then please come along, have a look around our facilities and a chat with the staff.
