Olney Runners Club Training 7pm every Wednesday
Training... why bother?
G It’s tough finishing work, feeding the kids, the husband or wife and then trying to get yourself out for a run. Peer groups like Olney Runners provide that added motivation to commit to regular training.
G Progressive training programmes for your ability will help you improve in a much shorter period of time than simply plodding the same old routes over and over again.
G Learn new training techniques fartlek, intervals, hill training, pyramid sessions, parloff and even the occasional ‘easy’ run. Training sessions are always geared towards your ability.
G It really is fun, sometimes tough but always fun.
New to running, don’t hesitate, get yourself down to the Market Place, Olney 7pm every Wednesday. Take a look at the website for further details www.olneyrunners.org.uk

World Long Distance Duathlon Belgium
Another damp day for JC as he lined up for the World Long Distance Duathlon in Geel, Belgium in an attempt
to improve upon his 2nd place at the European Championships earlier this year. The race, over a technically demanding and cobble stoned 18km run, 72km cycle and a final 9km run course, is the blue riband event in the Duathlon world. The rain eased over the opening run laps and Jon was able to consolidate a good start in 7th place, entering T1 in 1 hour 13 mins and 18 seconds. Sadly the weather deteriorated again on the cycle leg resulting in a number of crashes and punctures but, despite slowing on the final of 4 laps, after just over 2 hours of cycling Jon was safely back into T2 in 6th place and out on the final run. Due to a stomach problem Jon had not been able to digest any of the special mix of gels and sports bars and inevitably his paced slowed on the final discipline. He dug in, however and completed his best performance at a World Championships to date, finishing in 8th place in a time of 4 hours 4 minutes and 2 seconds. Next up is the 10km – 40km – 5 km Short Course World Championships in Rimini in September.
Adventure Racing Brighton
Four Olney Runners headed to a very windswept Brighton for an eight hour event to include running, biking, canoeing, abseiling and culminating in a climb up a very greasy wall. Henry and Phil finished 4th overall and were first pair home whilst Dave Pepper and Amanda Brear finished 19th and were first mixed pair home. K
