Dear Editor
Terrorist attack on Olney
Someone in MK council is out to get Olney residents, there are proposals to rob us of two
metres each side, of our lovely newly laid block paved ‘High Street’ walkways.
This undercover operation is headed up by ‘Mouchel’ but I suspect financed by some barmy brain dead bureaucrat; and therefore ultimately by you and me in our council tax.
The cunning plan is to devalue the High Street so much that property values will fall, allowing any old ‘Tom, Dick or Harry’ to take over the town.
The masterpiece in the scam is to create a climate of fear for three consecutive years, whereby drivers and pedestrians alike will be bombarded with the noise and dust of hideous pneumatic drills. Residents who work in Milton Keynes and use their cars to get there will be particularly hard hit, never knowing whether they will be stuck at those, all to recently remembered, ‘road works’ for half an hour or a mere 15 minutes.
If you value, as I do, the unique character of our town please say NO to drawing 1 of the ‘Mouchel’ consultation form, you can get it from the town library, and whilst you are there take a look yourself at the other proposals and plans. Better still if you feel as strongly as I do write to your councillor or MP.
Show ’em what we’re made of.

The following is an email sent to Peter Timson of Mouchel
Dear Peter
Olney Area Review – Traffic Management Proposal – Drawing 1
We would like to comment as follows on proposals for the north (Wellingborough direction) end of the High Street.
a. We are opposed to the narrowing of the pavement and extending the length of the parking spaces.
Part of the character of Olney at our end of the road is the wide pavement. It makes it safer when tipping out of the house with toddlers and creates the feeling that we don’t live right on the road. It also helps to reduce noise pollution because the house is that much further away from slamming car doors.
We feel strongly that extending the length of parking spaces would fly in the face of the current focus on reducing the environmental footprint, ever-increasing price of petrol, proposals for higher vehicle excise duty for larger cars etc.
b. We are in favour of marking out parking spaces.
Could this simply be done by painting white lines rather than block paving? We are not sure that the latter is in character.
We do experience parking problems, especially during the day, and it is enfuriating – and happens frequently – to find people badly parked: three cars occupying the space of five.
When considering the width of spaces, please take into account that those of us with short cars are able to park ‘economically’ by squeezing in with the right hand side of our bumper next to the triangular flower beds.
Please confirm receipt of this email so that we know our views have been taken into consideration. We were unable to complete the appropriate form online.
