Dear Editor
On behalf of Olney Infant School, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the local businesses, parents and friends
for their kind donations for our Promise Auction which was held on Friday 6 June in the Working Mens Club.
We had a total of 123 promises and we raised an amazing £3,424 for the school. The money will be used to help fund the purchase of additional reading books for the children to enjoy.
Our next fun event which is open to members of the public is our Annual Summer Fayre which takes place on Saturday 5 July 2008 from 11.30am until 2.30pm. There will be many stalls and shows, bouncy castles, an opportunity to swim in the open air pool, face painting and much much more.
Jane Richardson, on behalf of Friends of Olney Infant School Dear Editor
I note from Tony Evans’ comments printed in the June issue of the Phonebox, that he is concerned that Olney’s entrance into Britain in Bloom may be affected by the condition of Driftway. This may be the case though he ought, I feel, open his eyes a little to the state of the parks and grass verges around the town. They too, are an absolute disgrace and frankly look considerably worse than Driftway. This is a situation that appears to have been getting increasingly worse over the last few years, this year I think they have just given up!
Regards, Martin Ridgley
A few days later: Good news, grass cutting has commenced... Bad news, because the grass was allowed to get so long it now resembles a field post combine! It is an absolute mess with long grass everywhere and appears to have been done with little care or attention. Are these services now being contracted out I wonder, or are corners being cut? If so they appear to be the only thing that are!
