Dear Editor
To the residents and concerned visitors who signed the petition against Tesco Finest opening on the Olney Market Square, thank you very much for taking the time to add your signatures to the list. We collected well over 860 signatures, which I think you will agree is quite a significant number.
Unsurprisingly, I have received no reply whatsoever from Sir Terry Leahy or the Tesco Empire, which to me only emphasises their bullish attitude and their lack of concern for the very town and residents they wish to ‘serve’.
I received a reply from the Olney Town Council who wished only to reiterate their inability to do anything about the issue.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Anne for all her hard work, and for keeping spirits up!
Whether the petition has any effect on the opening of this shop remains to be seen, but if it does go ahead, at least we can say we exercised our right to object.
