Olney Town Council
News from your Olney Town Council
Della Cheal Hello, I’m Della Cheal, standing for election on to Olney Town Council. I’ve recently become closely involved in the good work the council does through the ‘Olney Middle School Crossing’ campaign and I’m keen to continue this further with other important issues that affect us and our community here in Olney. I’m married with two children, one at Olney Middle School and one at Olney Infant School and I am hoping to be able to represent the views of families throughout the town as a council representative.
Rachael Passee Hi, I’m Rachael Passee. I am married and have two children who attend Olney Infant School and Olney Middle School. We have lived in Olney for the last eight years and thoroughly enjoy being part of our community. Recently, I have been instrumental in the campaign for a controlled crossing outside Olney Middle School. I have enjoyed campaigning and representing the concerned parents regarding this local issue and hope to continue this work in the future. I would like to stand for election onto Olney Town Council so that I can give something back to the community and help our market town flourish.
There are places for 15 Town Councillors to represent the residents of Olney on ‘Olney Town Council’. Firstly, we would like to introduce two new faces for election, Della Cheal and Rachael Passee and then the following 11 Councillors are putting up for re-election (leaving two vacancies). Any number of residents from Olney may put themselves forward for election and Nomination Papers are available at The Olney Centre from the Town Clerk Pat Slaney.
Deirdre Bethune I have lived in Olney since 1975 and so am not a local although I feel passionately about the town. I have been a member of Olney Town Council since 1978 and served as mayor from 1994-98. I stood then as now because I have a love for Olney and a concern for the people in it and its future. Olney has changed much over the intervening years; grown in size and changed in population. I am proud to have been a member of the town council for all these years and watched it blossom and grow in strength. We have entered the spirit of Britain in Bloom, created Dickens of a Christmas and provided the wonderful Olney Centre. We as councillors are here for you and I would be happy to continue as a councillor at the next election
John Boardman I joined Olney Town Council in May 1982 and had the privilege of being Town Mayor at a time when there were changes taking place which I believe have gone some way to maintaining Olney's character and individuality. I am seeking re- election as I still believe in and enjoy what I do as a councillor and also I would like to think I bring some continuity to the job.
Stephen Clark I became a member of the Town Council in 1992 and have been a member ever since, having been re-elected in 1996, 2000 and 2004. I have also represented Olney on Milton Keynes Council since 1996. Having lived in Olney throughout my life, I am keen to ensure that Olney derives suitable benefits from Milton Keynes without losing too much of its rural charm and character. I am also a member of both the Governing Body of Olney Infant School and the Management Committee of Olney Youth Centre. My main interest outside the town is as the Chairman of Redwings Horse Sanctuary, the largest equine charity in the UK.
Tony Evans I have lived and farmed at Olney Park for 40 years and have been actively involved in the life of the Town for all of that time. Town Councillor since 1982 and involved in many of the town projects since then. As Chair of Recreation & Services for many years I have tried to work with all the Sports Clubs to improve and extend the playing facilities and would like to continue with this unfinished work. I was closely involved in the setting up of the Olney Centre and the Farmers Market, I Chair the Olney Pancake Race Committee and Chair the Ann Hopkins Almshouse Trust. If voted back on to the Town Council I will continue to work for the benefit of all in the Town.
