Dogs in Need
I’m sure many of you will remember reading articles about Stan
the abandoned German Shephard who was found in East
Street, Olney. Perhaps you also remember Arnie the Great
Dane (also rescued at 12 months old, after being beaten by his previous owner). Unfortunately Arnie developed cancer of the leg and chest and was put to sleep on 8 February. He has been a fantastic gentle giant who we had for 6 1/2 years. We will never be able to replace him.
But now for some brighter news. Having had a brilliant Christmas
present of a kennel and run, not everybody’s ideal present I know, we can now begin to foster.
My daughter Rae is a volunteer at weekends for ‘Animals in Need’ at Little Irchester. Our first foster dog is Sacha a six month old Rottie pup who was beginning to get stressed and bored in kennels. Since being with us she has learnt a few basic manners and commands and is almost house trained. Sacha has been reserved and goes to her new home this weekend, 12/13 January.
Hopefully we will continue to foster as and when we are needed. We can be contacted on 01234 713884 or check the poster in our garden (Spring Lane, Olney) to find out who we have up for adoption.
This brings me on the the next issue: Funds. ‘Animals in Need’ pay for food and all vets bills, but, and it is a big but, we always need towels, duvets, duvet covers, poo bags, hide chews, strong toys, sterilized bones, blankets, halti collars and leads, Chappie and Morrisons tinned dog food and complete dry food. Anything we cannot use we would pass to ‘Animals in Need’, nothing is wasted. If you could help us with any of these items please ring us or drop off at the Phonebox Magazine. I really
need to find out what Ron and Yvonne’s tipple is as they have been so good to keep printing these articles for me!
Many thanks
Jayne Stevenson

Tulip
Tulip is another dog in rescue. She has been with ‘Animals in Need’ for a little while now. She is full of energy and would suit a dog owner with experience. She is a Staff x Collie and approximately two years old. Tulip needs some basic training and lots of walks but is a fantastic, loving dog. She was placed in Forest Lodge Kennels and then re-homed to an elderly lady. Unfortunately Tulip was too lively and ‘Animals in Need’ stepped in and took her as she was at risk of being put to sleep.
Tulip has been spayed, vacinated and ID chipped. If you are interested there is a minimum donation and home visit required. The phone number is 01933 278080.
