‘Man Friendly’ Dance Style has Arrived in Olney!
You heard it here first! A partner dance style that will appeal to any ‘red bloodied’ male, that’s easy to learn and looks fantastic, has arrived in Olney every Tuesday night. The opening night saw nearly 100 happy people through the door, which was excellent, but now the interesting bit... the numbers were equal men:women. This is almost unheard of in the dance world and proves the claim that this truly is a ‘Bloke friendly’ dance.
The Olney Working Men’s Club on the High Street is the place to be every Tuesday night when UK Smoooth comes to town. Club owner, David Plummer is keen to distance his form of social partner dancing from the ‘flouncy’ performance dancing as seen on the TV show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. “If that programme doesn’t put men off dancing, nothing will” says David. “I can’t imagine many men will relish the idea of learning a dance routine, getting dressed up in sequins and lycra and then having to perform in front of a panel of jumped up self-opinionated judges.” It’s no wonder traditional dance classes are always short of men!”
At UK Smoooth, social partner dancing is so different. Yes, you can advance to high levels if you wish, but there’s no pressure to. Dance nights are social affairs, very casual. See it more as a night out with friends where you also learn to dance in a pressure-free environment.
The dance style taught has been developed by David Plummer and is now taught both nationally and internationally. It has the look of Salsa but not the complicated footwork. The music used is more varied too, ranging from Justin Timberlake to Frank Sinatra, which helps make the dance style popular with people of all ages who want to be able to dance at weddings, clubs and parties, not just specialist dance nights... anywhere social!
You don’t need any special footwear or equipment, just a relaxed and friendly attitude will do fine! Everyone is welcome to just turn up any Tuesday night at the The Olney Working Men’s Club, doors open at 7.30pm with Beginners classes starting at 8.
