Pegasus invites you to celebrate Diamond Wedding anniversary
On 20 November 2007, HM The Queen and HRH Prince Philip will celebrate 60 years of marriage. To mark the occasion, Pegasus Retirement Homes is inviting residents of Olney and the local area, who are over the age of 55, to join them at a party being held at Newton Court on Hoppers Hill, Olney.
The party will take place on Tuesday 20 November, and guests will be treated to a buffet lunch and a slice of a specially-made anniversary celebration cake. There will also be the opportunity for guests to extend their own personal Diamond Jubilee message to the Royal couple by signing a special commemorative book. The book will then be bound and sent to Buckingham Palace.
Peter Askew, chief executive of Pegasus, said: "We're very excited to be celebrating such a momentous occasion. Sixty years of
marriage is a truly wonderful achievement. We're hoping this party will provide an opportunity for like-minded people to join us and celebrate this milestone anniversary and reminisce about years gone by. Some people may even remember the Royal wedding 60 years ago!"
People wishing to attend should reserve their place by contacting Linda Bamber at Newton Court on 01234 714497. Linda would also love to hear from couples celebrating their own Diamond Wedding anniversary this year.
Peter Askew added: "The Queen and Prince Philip are living their later years to the full, something many Pegasus apartment owners and other retirees can relate to. Inviting like-minded people to a party seems the perfect way to help them celebrate." K
Olney RFC Mini and Junior Section
Olney RFC Mini and Junior Section has had a great start to the season. Our registration day went extremely well, with over 260 players registering.
Our Juniors were once again sponsored by LEXUS Milton Keynes for their national rugby festival. All the teams played superbly and managed to get out of their groups to at least reach the semi finals. Our U16s won through to the final but lost out to home team Derby.
A number of our mini teams played in the Kettering Tournament, with all again playing exceptionally well. Our U7s, U9s and U11s all reaching their respective finals.
The Olney Rugby Club has a great family atmosphere and we welcome everybody, new and old. We are particularly looking for children to join our mini section of school years 4–7 and juniors of school years 8–11. The girls and ladies team are always happy to welcome new members.
All of the coaching sessions are carried out in a secure, controlled environment, with the main objective being everyone's fun, enjoyment and development. K
For more information do not hesitate to contact Dave Combes (Mini & Junior Chairman) on 01908 615359 or Lloyd Warn (Head Coach U9s) on 01234 240150.

From its study and subsequent research, a replica was made using authentic materials. This instrument, known as The Gold Lyre of Ur, will be shown and heard.
The Society offers a limited number of £5 non-member tickets for this meeting which will be available from 1st November. Meetings will be held in The Olney Centre at 10am. Please contact Ken Kent, tel: 01234 713887 for tickets.

Newport Pagnell Swimming Club
Newport Pagnell Swimming Club is the second oldest swimming club in England. It was founded in 1890 and swam in the River Ouse. No heated swimming pools in those days! Even today, swimming is an important ability, with so many rivers, lakes and canals around us locally. The Swimming Club, which is committee run, is based at Middleton Pool in Newport Pagnell. We also use Leon Pool in Bletchley and Bedford High School Pool in Bedford in order to fit in all the sessions needed by a competitive club.
Our Learn to Swim classes are held each Tuesday, from 5.30 to 7.00pm over a 12 week rolling programme. We welcome children with all abilities from three years upwards who are taught using both the learner and main pools as appropriate. All teachers used by the club are qualified and hold at least the minimum ASA recognised standard. Our classes begin with Tadpoles, then progress through Minnows, Trouts, Supertrouts, Eels, Otters and finally to Sharks. These names help to give the swimmers identity and encourage them to progress through the classes. Progression through the classes will be at the teacherʼs discretion, following regular assessments. The Classes Gala (together with a bar-b-que) takes place in June each year and is arranged by class rather than age of the swimmer. Keen swimmers may be moved from Otters or Sharks to the squad where competitive training begins.
There are several stages in the squad where the emphasis is still on technique but where we also begin to develop stamina and speed. Squad sessions are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings and two shorter sessions for developing swimmers on Fridays. Swimmers in the squads have an opportunity to swim in competitive galas, both at home and away. Our senior squad members compete in the Speedo, Chiltern, Home Counties and Milton Keynes Junior Leagues and in a variety of other galas. Squad members can also take part in several Open Meets as well as being encouraged to enter the County Championships, held in early spring. Our Club Championships are held in October each year and are followed by the presentation evening when all the trophies are given to the successful swimmers followed by a buffet supper and disco.
We are always looking for new talent to strengthen our club so if you would like to learn to swim and compete for some wonderful trophies amongst a friendly family atmosphere then for further information or to arrange a trial contact Chris Hill on 07830 316806 or Debbie Hawkins on 01908 281735. K
