Olney’s Home from Home Day Nursery Supporting Advantage Africa
On Thursday 27 September Advantage Africa invited Olney Town Mayor Cllr. John Smail to draw the raffle organised by Sally Jackson's Home from Home Day Nursery. Proceeds of £926 from the raffle are going to support poor, rural communities to establish two nursery schools and help teachers to run them. Funds will be used for building materials, equipment, establishment and running costs. As you can imagine £926 will go a long way in Africa.
The nursery schools will bring vital relief to overstretched families in the communities of Bombo in Uganda and Obambo in Kenya. They will enable young children, many of them orphans, to have nutritional food and a fun and nurturing environment in which to play and learn while their parents/carers are released to work or farm.
The poverty in both these villages is so great that many parents/carers simply don’t know how they will feed their children when they wake up each morning – yet their determination for a better life is nothing short of inspirational. Working in partnership with Advantage Africa, these communities have already established a clinic, primary school, orphan feeding programme and HIV prevention. K
The first of the photos show the Mayor with the Founder of Advantage Africa, Andrew Betts, together with one of the Charity's Volunteers, Jackie Mundin and the Administrator and Fund Raiser for Advantage Africa, Teleri Jardine. The second includes Sally Jackson with her daughter Freja and Francesca Thorpe-Morgan and others from the Home from Home Day Nursery. The final photo shows one of the Day Nursery children picking a winning raffle number.
