Local family firm has it in the bag
Alocal farming and leather trade family is keeping the regional tradition of involvement in the shoe and leather trade alive. By blending five generations of expertise in leather production with the discerning requirements of the 21st Century consumer, Tusting have found a niche to satisfy those looking for exquisitely-made leather luggage and furniture. And they are right here on your doorstep, in Lavendon.
Now run by the three Tusting brothers, William, Nicholas and Alistair, the company employs over 30 local craftsmen and women and together they produce handbags, luggage and furniture. Tusting also supplies leather and trading expertise to local, national and international shoe manufacturers as well as getting involved in ground-breaking projects to improve recycling of leather and other natural fibres such as cotton and wood.
A large proportion of the luggage is exported to Japan and the USA where customers value the inimitable British-made quality of the pieces. In the UK, Tusting products are sold through exclusive stores in the major towns and cities, such as Fortnum and Mason, Pickett and Farlows in London, but locals have the advantage of being able to visit the factory showroom in Lavendon, with the additional bonus of actually seeing the products being made there.
The showroom is open 10am until 4pm on weekdays, with occasional special sale days in addition – the next is on the 9th and 10th of November – an opportunity to get someone (or yourself!) something really special for Christmas.
