Keep your New Year fitness resolution
Tradition states that we make resolutions give them a gentle introduction, while Track your progress: The more monitoring
keeping it fun and providing real results.
Through her experience of being a personal trainer and fitness instructor Mandy also has lots of valuable motivational experience. She’s shared with us the following simple steps we can all take to help us stick to our resolutions:
Commit to action: By making a strong initial commitment to make a change such as joining the gym or a fitness class you are making a clear statement of intent. This is a very powerful psychological step.
Write it down: It sounds simple but the act of writing down your objective in black and white makes it more realistic and therefore achievable. Try to make sure that your objective is termed positively and is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timed). At Olney Health & Fitness we can work with our clients to set SMART
objectives and help them to achieve them.
on New Year's Day to become a better person. Unfortunately statistics show that by the end of January 50% of us will have abandoned them and up to 90% will have by the end of the March.
To ‘lose weight’ and ‘get in better physical shape’ are the most popular New Year’s resolutions and in recognition of this Olney Health & Fitness have developed a new programme of fitness classes. All designed to help us to buck the trend and stick to our fitness resolution.
Mandy Jones, an aerobics and fitness instructor with over 16 years’ experience will host the classes. Of specific interest to us fitness ‘resolutionaries’ are beginners classes, which can be booked in blocks of four. The classes are held during the day and the evening – ideal for busy professionals or for anyone with children.
Mandy explains the rationale behind the classes:
“A lot of people looking to get fit are nervous about joining classes because they are worried that the level will be too difficult or that they will get left behind. By introducing our beginners’ classes we can
you and feedback you get the better you will do. Each small improvement or weight loss will help to increase your motivation and stick to your resolution. We can help our clients track their progress against their objective and make recommendations for further improvement.
Have a partner: All of us have those days where we say, “I really don’t feel like doing this.” You need someone who is equally as motivated as you are who can help you when you are feeling that way, and vice versa. Typically, you're not going to feel down at the same time.
By joining classes together you can keep each other motivated and can even share the driving!
