HAVE YOUR SAY
Letters
Dear Editor
Please let Eileen Murrey know that her thanks for assisting with her scooter problems have been warmly received, although I am sure that any of the kind people of Olney would have done exactly the same thing.
Best Regards, Mike Pollock
Dear Editor
This letter is to let you know how much I enjoy reading the Phonebox Magazine. I have recently moved to the area and have found your magazine invaluable.
Just one thing, can we have more news and reports from Newport Pagnell please!
Regards, Sue Jones, Newport Pagnell
Thank you for your kind letter Sue, we do try and include Newport Pagnell where we can but we need more people to send us their stories, reports and events that are happening in the town and we will publish them.
Regards, Ed

Dear Editor
I read with interest the impassioned plea from John Perkins from the Olney Chamber of Trade imploring us to do our bit and shop in Olney.
I have lived here for 19 years and up until a few years ago would have been one of his most hardened disciples, I ALWAYS shopped locally, that was until however, the utter chaos that refuses to be addressed in the Market Square car park just became beyond a joke.
From 08:30, all the spaces are gone so we can safely assume that given the shops haven't even opened yet, that these cars belong to commuters who dump their cars there and toodle off to work in neighbouring towns taking up a space all day whilst contributing nothing, and shop owners/employees who can't be bothered to walk to their premises so again take up a space all day (and then complain trade isn't what it used to be!).
So now not wanting to go through the utter chaos and fruitless task of finding a space in order to make my contribution to the local area, I now don't bother and just drive on.
I'm told the town council have looked at this and sat on their hands (are they the aforementioned owners who require a space all day I wonder?).
Parking charges are never going to be popular but I came across a great system in Radlett a few weeks ago whereas your first two hours are free (so no charges to put anyone off) however after that you pay to stay longer or get a ticket. So the genuine shopper gets plenty of time to do their shopping with no parking charges to dull their enthusiasm, and the people who treat the car park as their own private space whilst contributing nothing to the local economy will have to make alternative arrangements.
Until this is addressed then local trade isn't going to get better anytime soon!
Regards, Simon Bull, Olney
