Museum Matters
The Friends of the Cowper & Newton Museum are delighted to report that their annual Grand Christmas Draw succeeded in raising a four figure sum and would like to thank all those who supported the raffle. In particular they would like to thank Marcus Jordan for continued sponsorship of the event and the many businesses which contributed prizes including Bedfordshire Golf Club; the Co- op; One Stop; Much Ado; McColls; Taylors; Punch Opticians; W. Lowden; Mandala Health & Beauty; Narcisse; Donzella; Frosts Garden Centre; The Flower Shop; John Lewis and Tesco. Proceeds from the draw will go to the Museum and are likely to be used to purchase new display cases for the newly acquired archive. All the winners have been notified of their good fortune and their prizes delivered.
Over Christmas and New Year the committee are having a break from fund-raising but will be back in action to organise a Ceilidh, to be held on the evening of Saturday 3rd February at The Olney Centre. The ever popular Adrian Besant will expertly guide dancers through their steps to music provided by The Orange and Blue Band. Tickets priced at £10 per person include a light supper but as The Olney Centre lacks a bar you are asked to bring your own drink and glass. In past years this event has been a sell out so you are advised to book your tickets early. As it is the Museum's closed season, tickets can be reserved by ringing Sue Daish on 01234 712888; or Pat Aitken on 01234 241966; or Alison Phillips on 01234711901. If you've never been to a Ceilidh before but fancy a fun way of shedding a few of those pounds you gained over Christmas why not give it a try? Never mind if you have two left feet, Adrian Besant is guaranteed to get you dancing like you were born to it! And we can promise you it's great fun. n
