Dear Editor
I long ago thought that community kindest had been lost. This all changed today thanks to the combined kindness of Mrs Flaxman of Olney and the Phonebox.
Thanks to yourselves for placing the ‘Found Wedding Ring’ notice on page 5, and a big thanks to Mrs Flaxman’s determination to return the ring to it's owner even after four weeks had passed!

Dear Editor
It was gratifying to read in News from around the villages that so many of the town’s organisations had ‘produced such a successful event’, i.e., Fiesta Fireworks. However, there was no mention of the Friends of Fiesta, many of whom had given up time on several weekends previous to the event and had spent most of the day setting up tents, transporting tables etc., as well as running a very successful bar and the ever popular mulled wine. I would also like to thank Elaine Baron for the tremendous amount of work she put in to this event on behalf of Fiesta.
See you at Dickens for more mulled wine (and a certain gentleman in red).

Your readers may not know that the Local Authority is seeking to remove all A boards in Olney which are not on private land. With the variety of establishments and with many having frontages off main roads, the A boards are essential publicity. In Olney Chamber of Trade, we are actively seeking a solution to this problem.
With Christmas very soon, I would remind everyone that there are excellent shopping choices in Olney. Please support your community and shop in Olney. They need you!
John Perkins, Olney Chamber of Trade
Sir
I wonder if it would be possible please to say a few sincere words of ‘thank you’ to all those who made the firework night such a success in Olney this year.
As townsfolk are no doubt aware, the display nearly did not happen due to a lack of a constituted Fiesta Committee following the AGM held in September this year. However a few stalwarts, including ‘Friends of Fiesta’ decided that this should not be a barrier to the enjoyment had by so many for the last twelve years.
With the aid of the Mayor, Paul Watson, the Bowls Club were approached to see if they would consider helping out, as on the night ‘manpower’ is the name of the game. Not withstanding the help offered by people who in the past have helped out, and without whose help firework night would not have happened this year, i.e., with the mulled wine, (which sold out!), also we needed to ensure security of the perimeter and collection of monies on the night.
In addition the aforementioned ‘Friends’ of Fiesta did a sterling job setting up the lights and public address system etc. The involvement of the other clubs, with, for example, the use of the Tennis Clubhouse for the St John, including a lost children facility, and participation of the Rugby and Football clubs, for the use of their magnificent lights. The Cricket club opened up their new pavilion, and provided a few marshals as well.
Thanks must also go to our sponsor of many years, Stephen Oakley, as without his enthusiasm and encouragement, firework night would be more difficult to put on.
It goes to show that when we as a Town pull together we can achieve great things. We have a very special atmosphere in Olney when it comes to that oft over quoted phrase ‘community spirit’. In Olney it lives and is real. On behalf of the organisers I thank you all, the Townsfolk of Olney.
Councillor Dave Price Dear Editor
I wonder if I could be allowed to use your magazine to express my appreciation of the way in which people doing their weekend shopping in Newport Pagnell on Saturday October 28th supported our collection on behalf of ‘Sound News’, the Talking Newspaper for the Blind.
I personally simply stood in the High Street from 10am to noon, and without my even having to rattle my collecting box, shoppers came up to me and put a total of £92.39 into the box. I could not believe how generous they were, and this, together with their friendly attitude, turned what could have been something to which I did not really look forward to into quite a pleasurable time. So a sincere ‘thank you’ to everyone who contributed.
Our total collection on the day in Bletchley, Newport Pagnell and Stony Stratford realised £542.48, which will be a great help in maintaining and improving our weekly free distribution of audio tapes to blind and partially- sighted people in the Milton Keynes area. (We normally send out about 220 tapes to be delivered each Friday.)
Incidentally, if any reader knows of someone who qualifies, but is not receiving the tapes, our secretary, Shirley Coulson (01908 660710) will put them on our list.
