Olney Bowling Club Centenary Dinner
On Friday 19th May Olney Bowling Club held its Centenary Dinner in the Clubhouse. Guests included Manny Howkins, President of Olney Rugby Club, David Harrison, Chairman of Olney Cricket Club, Mick Brown, Committee Member of Olney Football Club, David Danskin, Chairman of Olney Tennis Club, Pat Slaney, Town Clerk and Cllr Malcolm Messenger.
The President of the Bowling Club, Cllr John Smail, during his speech covering the 100 years of Olney Bowling Club was presented with a wooden plaque depicting the Club’s emblem which had been made by local woodcarver, Bill Slaney. Cllr Paul Watson, although a member of the Bowling Club, in his capacity of Olney’s Mayor, responded on behalf of the guests and proposed the toast to the President and Secretary of the Bowling Club, Cllr John Smail, the ladies captain, Brenda Richardson, the men’s captain, Gerald Wilson and members of the Bowling Club. d
Olney Healthcheck
A meeting to discuss Olney’s Healthcheck was held on Tuesday 6th June which was chaired by Councillor David Coles. Representatives from the Cowper and Newton Museum, Historical Society, Churches, Sports Clubs, Olney Town Councillors and Ward Councillors, together with interested residents, filled the Council Chamber at the Olney Centre to listen to Malcolm Godwin inform how a Healthcheck could benefit Olney. Representatives from Milton Keynes Council were also in attendance and will help with publicity and administration. There was considerable enthusiasm for the idea. d
NAG (Neighbourhood Action Group)
On Tuesday 13th June representatives of the Neighbourhood Action Group Committee met to discuss various concerns relating to Olney. Top of the list this month was the spate of break-ins to several commercial properties and the anti-social behaviour in the East Street Car Park. The committee members present from the left were:
Ricky Mason representing the youth of the town, PCSO David Huckle (Thames Valley Police and Chairman), Debbie Brock (Olney Ward Councillor), Heather Baker (MK Parish Liaison Officer), Cllrs John Sharp and John Smail (Olney Town Council) and Inspector Sue Usher (Thames Valley Police).
David Sands Headmaster of Olney School Campus and Paula Ayres of the National Probation Service were also present. d
Olney First School Governors Meeting
A Governors meeting of Olney First School was held on Thursday 8th June. Before the formal part of the meeting the Chairman Cllr. Jeremy Rawlings welcomed members of the 3rd Year Council who gave a PowerPoint presentation to the Governors on their role in Olney First School
