Fiesta Queen Sophie Day
Letter from our new Fiesta Queen
Hello Everyone
In the lead up to the day of the crowning we primarily had to think about one of the most important traditions of the Olney court – the style and colour of the dresses! We all squeezed into Lesley Hancon’s front room to discuss our ideas... And finally (after much deliberation) we came to a decision! That ‘Get Together’ fuelled our excitement because everything began to come to life, and I know that we all found it very difficult to keep the design and colour to ourselves!
A few weeks later it was time for the dress fitting at Diane Warren’s house who kindly made the dresses. When we put the almost complete dresses on, the princesses along with myself were very subdued – I think we were in awe! However, the grins on our faces confirmed that we were delighted with the outcome, as we hadn’t been exactly sure of what to expect!
Soon after that, we went along with Queen Mum (Elaine Baron) on a shopping trip to MK shopping centre to hunt for accessories. Having
seen our dresses we were incredibly keyed up and our giggles were non- stop as we hunted round the shops. As we came across bags, and then the items of jewellery, everything seemed to be coming together perfectly, which left us all eager for the big day!
On the day of the crowning we went round to our Queen Mum’s house where we put on our entire outfits for the first time and spent ages ‘dolling ourselves up’. Before long the vintage car (driven by Andrew Soul) arrived which took us on a ride around Olney waving to our local residents, which again added to our excitement leading up to the crowning.
It wasn’t long after we arrived at Olney
First school that we were sitting on our thrones being interviewed by Chris Ford and then being officially crowned by the outgoing Queen Jessica Richardson and newly appointed Town Mayor, Paul Watson – our moment of glory! Following on from that we along with the VIPs of the day, Paul and Dorothy Watson (Town Mayor and Mayoress), Mike & Cheryl Barry (Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Milton Keynes) and of course our parents and had a lovely buffet lunch which was prepared by Jacquie Cole and Libby and Lauren Sweeney which was greatly enjoyed by everyone. Our final duties of the day involved selling and then drawing the raffle tickets, which brought our day to a close.
We all had a fantastic and memorable day and are now looking forward to the rest of our reign!
Best wishes, Sophie x d
