Wellingborough School GOOD SCHOOLS GUIDE A LEVEL AWARDS
Wellingborough School has been notified of its exceptional achievement where it received The Good Schools Guide A Level Awards 2005 for the best results at AS level achieved by Boys taking Applied
Mathematics in UK Independent Schools.
The award is based on analysis of pupils’ individual performances in the examinations which underlie the 2005 performance tables, and recognises the sustained quality of the School’s A level teaching.
Out of eight pupils taking the examination, all achieved excellent results and five boys have succeeded in attracting this prestigious award. The formula for selecting successful candidates concentrates on individual performance throughout the nation. The boys won through, fending off stiff competition from Independent Schools across the country.
Mr Andy McGinnes, Head of Maths at Wellingborough commented “We are delighted with the results achieved by all our pupils taking the Applied Mathematics AS level. A lot of hard work has been put in by the pupils with a major supporting role being played by the staff. The presentation of this award is an accolade not only to the pupils but to the staff in question. Mr Garry Bowe, Headmaster, added: “We are very proud of these results in particular, but the 2005 results for Mathematics in general were exceptional. For example our GCSE cohort achieved 16 A* grades, and we achieved 88% A/B grade across all A Level Mathematics, including Further Mathematics.” d

ENJOY PERIOD COSTUME DAY
On 20th June all the children and staff in the Wellingborough Prep and Pre-prep schools spent the day at school in period costume. A horse-drawn landau carriage drew up mid-morning bringing the Mayor, Mayoress and both Head Teachers resplendent in costume. The Mayor used to be a pupil at the school. Everyone enjoyed Victorian timelines, quizzes, games and a themed lunch, and it was great fun imagining what it might have been like at the school 125 years ago. d
