As the end of term approaches, we are inundated with requests from eager young people, anxious to gain some work experience in the workplace and, specifi cally, in a print and publishing business. They might be budding journalists, business students, or people interested in printing and publishing, and Phonebox is happy to take in a few local teenagers to give them a glimpse of life after school. One of the students we welcomed this year was Maya Czerminska, a brilliant young woman who showed us what a great writer she is. And we were also impressed with her drive and determination %u2013 Maya is a wheelchair user who we featured in Phonebox Magazine back in 2012.The story, %u2018Maya%u2019s Dream%u2019 (below), described how a group of cyclists rode 500 miles from Le Mans in France back to Olney to raise money and awareness for Maya and the condition she was born with, Spinal Muscular Atrophy. And now, 13 years later, we publish her feature %u2018Breaking Down Barriers%u2019 on page 6. Describing the challenges of getting around in a wheelchair, it%u2019s an interesting and lovely piece. We all loved having Maya here, and she%u2019s welcome back any time, as are the other two students we took on, Emily Read and Ethan Mair.Talking of students, all our local schoolkids will be on their annual summer holidays now, with no more education until next month. Not sure how to fi ll your time? Check out our%u00a0 %u201931 things to do%u2019 feature on page 32 for inspiration. We have scoured the area to bring you a month%u2019s worth of fun and activities for all the family to enjoy. Many of these events are free, so it does not necessarily have to be an expensive month while the children are looking for something to do.In terms of paid events, our entertainment pages (p 12) list some of the best music, comedy and drama that%u2019s heading its way to our region%u2019s clubs and theatres this summer.Have a happy and safe vacation, everyone, and we%u2019ll see you in September!Ron Hall, EditorJune 24th 2012 will see a group of twenty-four amateur cyclists, many local Olneyites, depart the world famous motor racing town of Le Mans in France for a 500 mile cycle ride back to Maya%u2019s home town of Olney in Buckinghamshire.
