Olney Tennis Club
EAn exciting finals day
xciting matches makes Finals Day a highlight of the season. The finals for our summer tournaments, sponsored by Stephanie Price Wealth Planning, were held in September on a fine day enjoyed by many spectators. After battling through a number of
rounds before the day, the finalists put on a good display of tennis with a number of close matches. Here are the results:
Ladies Singles: Katie Bennett beat Emma Maitland. Mens Singles: Xavier Vale-Buisson beat Tim Ball. Ladies Doubles: Jane Anderson and Gill Hogston beat Eleanor Carter and Katie Bennett. Mens Doubles: Phil Anderson and Ian Dunkley beat George Maling and Mike Spencer. Mixed Doubles: Gill Hogston and Ian Dunkley beat Sarah and George Maling. Mixed Doubles Plate: Jemimah and Brian Worsfold beat Jacqui Thorn and Nick Hardy.
Well done to all the finalists! The presentations will be at the club dinner at the Courtyard in Olney on Saturday 12 November. Tickets are available from Emma Maitland.
We had three promotions in the Summer MK League with our adult teams, sponsored by Stephen Oakley Estate Agents. The Mixed A & B and the Ladies C teams all were promoted with the Ladies C Champions. Well done to all these and other team squads.
In the winter season starting in October, we are running 5 mixed teams in the MK League and 2 Mixed teams in the Bucks Vets League.
Moving on to our American tournaments, sponsored by Stephanie Price Wealth Planning, the last summer tournament was well supported on a fine day. In between enjoying the teas, some sociable tennis was played with Margaret Currie and Nick Hardy winning the final against Jill Bradford and Jim Currie. The next American Tournament will be on Sunday November 13th at 1pm.
The clubhouse will be refurbished in October/November, giving us a great facility and with now 4 courts with top quality surfaces, the club’s significant investment means it is well set up for the next ten years.
Now’s the time to get back on court or start playing tennis at our friendly club and we have been pleased to welcome new players. You can join any of our club sessions, play in teams or just play with friends. There are no court or light fees and lots of benefits.

Olney Junior Hockey Club
We need AstroTurf
Olney Junior Hockey Club was started by a bunch of enthusiastic parents in January 2016, to bring hockey to the town of Olney. We are all former players, and coaches, and want to provide children with the opportunity to try the
sport. We have both boys and girls who play. It is great to have another team sport for girls to play.
We started with 35 children the first term, school years 3 to 6, then increased it to 45 players for the second term. This autumn we have doubled our sessions, and extended our numbers to 60 players, keeping the year 7s playing in the hope we will have an AstroTurf available soon. We still have spaces in the Under 8’s (Year 3 children), and have opened it up to Year 2s as well. If your child would like to come along and give it a try for a couple of week, please email julia@olneyjuniorhockey.club. The Under 8s train on Tuesdays (5-6pm), the Under 10s on Tuesdays
(6-7pm) and the Under 12s on Wednesdays (5-6.30pm).
We plan to enter teams from the Under 10s and the Under 12s in local tournaments this season, starting in Bedford in November. The children cannot wait!
We play in the sports hall at Ousedale Olney Campus, but desperately need to get outdoors and play on AstroTurf. We have been talking to Mr McFadden (Deputy Headteacher - Olney campus) about having an AstroTurf pitch laid at Olney to support the provision of sport to the pupils there. It is being considered this autumn, and a proposal is being prepared for consideration by the management of Ousedale School. It would be great to get support from other sports groups and parents in the town to help show the importance of such a facility to the school and the community. Do get in contact if you want to help support this initiative info@olneyjuniorhockey.club
