he Club’s annual tournaments were held recently and once again were played in a very friendly but competitive way, with most matches being very close. Our treasurer, Bob Mungham, proved why he is the reigning champion by not only retaining the men’s singles title but also winning the mixed doubles,
partnered by the ladies reigning champion Rita Daggett, who then went on to win the ladies singes. The rest of us have got a lot of work to do if ever we are going to beat them. The system for choosing partners and opponents is done fairly by choosing numbered lollipop sticks. As a result, it is fate or luck which determines who is a partner and whom you meet as an opponent in each game. This all helps to build up the excitement of the competition!
Unfortunately on the morning of the mixed doubles due to illness, one of the ladies had to withdraw, but Mike Hughes (aka Michelle!) bravely took her place, and was rewarded by getting through to the semi- nals.
Photos show all the entrants for the mixed (with Michelle) and Ian Candlin, Club Chairperson, presenting the trophies to our worthy winners.
