Olney Tennis Club
Olney B Mixed Vets win Bucks title and Olney Mixed A Bucks promoted!
Adult Teams: sponsored by Stephen Oakley Estate Agents
Our two Bucks teams have been having a great season. The B team won their last two matches to secure the title. First they beat Aylesbury 7-1 then beat Great Linford 6-2 to go through the season unbeaten. Our teams were Lynda Baker, Nigel Willard, Chris Wright and Mandy Elliott and then Nigel, Lynda, Mandy and Ian Fuller respectively. Lynda is ranked best lady player and Mandy 3rd in the league.
The A team has also done very well. A good 7-1 win against Woburn Park 1 has pretty much guaranteed promotion and a win the next game will bring the title. Well done the Phil and Gill Andereson, Gill Hogston and Ian Dunkley.
They also beat Penn and Tyler Green 8-0 thanks to strong performances by the Andersons along with Ian Fuller and Eleanor Carter.
The most successful of the Olney teams in the MK league is the E team and with a good draw against Newport Pagnell may bring promotion. Olney’s players were Paul and Nicola Norbury, Emma Maitland and Nick Hardy.
Before this, they beat Milton Keynes. A win in both mixed doubles gave us a 4-0 lead at the break and the victory was sealed with a win by the ever dependable ladies Jacqui Thorn and Nicola Norbury who were supported by husband Paul and Nick Hardy (see photo). Nicola is ranked top player in the division and Jacqui 3rd!

Newport Pagnell Town Football Club
County
Another successful month for Newport Pagnell Town saw them reach the nal of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy for the rst time in ve years with a 1-0 semi- nal win over Holmer Green under the oodlights at Willen Road. After
a fairly even rst half Newport dominated the second half, but it was not until the 84th minute, with spectators starting to think about extra time, that a well taken Dom Lawless goal gave Newport the win. The nal will be on Tuesday 5th April, 7.45pm, at Abingdon United FC, against Flackwell Heath, the club that Newport Pagnell Town beat on penalties in the 2011 nal.
Recent league matches have seen three wins out of four, despite some patchy performances, enough for Newport to retain third place. A 2-1 home win over Yaxley was followed by a 2-0 away win at Desborough. The only aw in the record in the past few weeks was a 3-2 away defeat at Boston Town, where Newport have now failed to win in their last 19 visits! This was followed by an excellent 2-0 home win over an in-form Sleaford Town team in a match in which Newport played some of their best football of recent weeks. Particularly in the second half, they controlled the match and with a little more sharpness in front of goal could have won by a bigger margin.
Fazel Koriya has kept up his goalscoring form in recent weeks with three goals in ve matches, and Dom Lawless scored the vital goal in the Senior Trophy semi- nal and the two goals against Sleaford. The top two places in the United Counties League Premier Division 84 Phonebox Magazine | April 2016
are probably out of Newport’s reach now but the contest for third place is fascinating. Holbeach United look to be Newport’s most likely challengers for that position, currently 9 points behind but with 6 games in hand, and with home and away matches against Newport still to come in late March and April. Both teams also have other matches against top six teams, but Holbeach United’s remaining xtures look the more dif cult and their xture backlog means that
