Emberton Church
All Saints Church, Emberton Church has just undertaken a complete refit of its internal lighting system,
replacing the conventional lighting with energy efficient LED fitments.
The Church was looking to reduce the problems of maintaning and replacing the ceiling spotlights, which kept failing and resulted in a high level and somewhat difficult operation to replace them. The existing installation, involved a number of spotlights being operated by dimmer switches to provide the right ambience for the church services. It was important that the solution matched this need.
A local, Olney based company, Light by Design which is part of the Open China Gateway Group, was asked to look at the lighting and offer solutions to help overcome the problems. As part of its portfolio, Light by Design offers lighting designs and products and will if required project manage the installation. Working with Warwick Clarke of the Emberton Parochial Church Council, Light by
Design submitted a proposal to replace the existing lighting with new LED spotlights and suitable dimmer switches. The proposal offered a number of benefits for the church: LED lighting has a lifespan of some 50,000 hours typically 10 times that of the bulbs it replaced and it would greatly reduce the maintenance required. Also the energy footprint and hence running costs would be reduced as the energy consumption fell by approximately 80% using the LED equivalent bulbs.
The comments after the installation was that the new lighting was brighter, sharper, more natural and offered better illumination with or without the dimming function.
Warwick Clarke commented: ‘The lights were installed by D V Boddy Electrical of Olney and the programme of work was completed with little fuss and to budget. We are very pleased with the outcome’. Light by Design is working with other churches and business in the area to help them evaluate the benefits of converting to LED lighting.
