Better every year
Without doubt the best BOFF put on so far. A far wider selection of food, as beautiful to look at as to eat. I loved the
more open feel to the event, with space to wander. Less queueing, more seats, great bar prices, and even the
weather was good. The entirely voluntary team not only manage to pull this together every year, but each time make it a little bit better. Thanks again people!
Standout dishes 2014
I certainly ate my fill that day. From noon til late, I grazed. So much to taste, so little time. And whilst every little morsel that passed my lips was delicious, I do have my favourites.
The sweetest of corn - the grilled sweetcorn from Matt of Emberton Smoke House was inspired. Everywhere you looked there were people walking around with yellow spears of loveliness dripping with butter. Beautifully sweet, and if you ignore that butter, healthy too!
Small but perfectly formed scotch egg - from
The Cowper’s Oak. A stunningly perfect runny yolk wrapped in tasty sausage meat and crispy coating. Tastes delicious, but small enough to leave room for plenty more.
Stir-fry sensation - the wagu beef stand was by far the most dramatic with flames of fire regularly rising to the
sky. Stir-fried strips of the tenderest beef, seasoned beautifully in teriyaki sauce, served on a brioche bun.
Totally gorgeous. Nearly had another.
And the one that got away. We weren’t paying attention and suddenly the one that everyone was talking about, the goat curry, was gone. I’m told it was superb. But I’ll never know. Maybe next year. HB
