Project Diamond Village Hall Refurbishment
Cup for Handicraft. Simon Lambert won the Men’s Baking Section. Why no Women’s Baking Section, was a frequently asked question, to which the Committee gave unconvincing answers, which is perhaps why one lady may have entered her bread in the Men’s section to make her point. It wasn’t discrimination. Honest! Brian Gilks and Madeleine Harrison shared the prize for the Hipkin Trophy for the Visual Arts.
In the Children’s Divisions, The Julia Mann Cup for pre-school children was won by Edward Lillie, the LNGR Shield for the 5-7s was won by Elizabeth Raymond, The Collins’ Trophy for the 8-11s went to Joshua Raymond and the Collins’ Trophy for the 12- 15s to: Yasmin Harrison.
A number of children showed off their fancy dresses on stage, competing for the Janet Mabbutt Memorial Trophy and Graham Mabbutt and former Lavendon School head teacher Janet Howe awarded the first prize to Isaac Martynski (Darth Vader), the second prize to Elizabeth Raymond(Princess) and the third to Abigail Marsden (Ladybird). This children’s stage performance was followed by another, when a choir from the
Lavendon School sang a a medley of songs, with some very expressive and energetic choreography. The audience were very impressed and showed their appreciation by spontaneous and long applause after each number. Congratulations to the children and to the teachers.
A MoT voucher, donated by Burrows’ garage was then auctioned, followed by the sale of exhibits, which were sold off at bargain prices that not even the you-know-who supermarkets could match. The draw for the Tusting bag then took place and a delighted Sally Wetherall picked up her valuable prize. Then followed the raffle draw.
The amount of money raised for Project Diamond, the Village Hall Refurbishment fund, is not known at the time of writing this article, but it is likely to be in the region of last year’s amount of £900. The Committee wishes to thank everybody who contributed to this fun event; the sponsors, the teachers and children of the Lavendon School, the judges who gave freely of their time, the exhibitors, the behind-the-scene helpers and of course the visitors. See you all next year.
