After a disappointing start to the season, the new look Newport Pagnell Town first team is sta ing to give some cause for a little optimism amongst supporters. Although points continue to be elusive away from home, two consecutive home wins, 4-1 against Holbeach United and a hard fought 1 -0 victory over Northampton Sileby Rangers, lifted them a couple of places in the league table.
Newport also went out of the UCL League Cup in the second round, with a 3-1 away defeat against first division Woodford United. They next faced second-placed Deeping Rangers at home. A good attacking performance saw Newport score three goals, and they were perhaps unlucky not to score at least two more, against a team that had only conceded an average of one goal per game in the league this season - but the final outcome was an 8-3 win for Deeping! The score flattered a Deeping teamthatwasundersustainedpressure in its own half for long periods, but the home defence, without injured captain John Thorpe, could not cope with the pace and sharp finishing of a big and powerful Deeping team.
To put this match in perspective, a defence that was below full strength conceded goals to the highest scoring team in the UCL Premier Division, but at the other end of the field Newport Pagnell played some good attacking football, scored goals, and continued to

December sees a series of important home matches at Willen Road, sta ing with visitors from Lincolnshire on consecutive Saturdays, Boston Town on 7th December and Sleaford Town on 1 4th December. With Newport two places above Boston in the league and just four points below Sleaford, they really need to take maximum points from these matches. (both at 3pm) Potentiallymoredifficultmatchesfollow, with a home match against third-placed Huntingdon Town, on Tuesday 1 7th December (7.45pm), followed by an away match at league leaders Spalding. Then we will be hoping that Santa brings three points to Willen Road when Newport face local rivals Kempston on Boxing Day! (Time to be confirmed - keep an eye on the Newport Pagnell Town Football Club web site: http://www.pitchero.com/ clubs/newportpagnelltown, or look out for posters around the town for details and don't miss the Boxing Day fun at Willen Road!).
