R.I.P. Tess
We all love and miss you so very much. Our hearts are broken.
When God calls little puppies to dwell with Him above,
We humans always q uestion the wisdom of his love.
For no heartache can compare with the loss of one small
"child" ,
Who does so much to make this world seem wonderful and mild.
Perhaps God tires - always calling the aged to His fold, And so He picks but few; To make the land of heaven more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult,
Yet somehow we must try,
For the saddest word that mankind knows will always be "Good-bye".
And so when little pups depart; We, who are le behind, must realise
How much God loves puppies... For angels are hard to find.
Tess, who was only one year old, strayed for a few minutes into a sheep field in Filgrave. The farmer said: "You have two minutes to get that dog before I shoot it dead".
Just moments later both the rmer and his son shot Tess in front of the handler, ignoring her pleas for the dog's life. The handler did s top them om shooting again as Tess was still breathing and carried the dog out of the field in the hope of reaching a vet, but Tess died in her arms.
A warm welcome to all our new firewood customers. In case you didn't make it, the Hollington Fireworks (celebrating the end of Summer Time) went off with a bang.
In time-honoured fashion, a hundred or so brave souls found themselves directed somewhere in the middle of the wood where they had never been before. After admiring the site and John 'Rocket Man's' bonfire for maybe a bit too long, all hell broke loose...
. . . Many thanks to Ma in, Jake, James, Paul and the Seddon father and son team for their assistance in letting off so many fireworks so quickly!
Autumn festivities out of the way, for John andIitisnowafightwiththemudandthe dark through to Christmas. Our first priority is to move the pigs, now that we just have one Berkshire sow ('Sider') and the twelve Oxfords, eight weeks old and getting feisty. Bob the Boar and the Pig With No Tail, went off to the abattoir a couple of days ago, and Catherine is on holiday with her boar till Christmas.
Now for the real reason for this communique. . . a planning application for a 50kW wind turbine at Hollington Wood was submitted on our behalf by Enviko Renewable Energy Solutions last week. I appreciate that wind energy is a political hot potato and some people have strong views on the subject. Whatever your position, I want to be completely open about what I am doing and am happy to discuss with anyone who wants to.
The basic rationale for the turbine is that we

Sunday 1 0th November was a day where we should have all given remembrance to those who lost their lives for us. I was down at the rugby club, suppo ing a friends' son who was playing in a friendly game.
At 10.55am they stopped the game and players from each side, coaches and referee, stood along the hallway line to prepare for remembrance.
All supporters and other games followed the same procedure.
Unfo unately, the football match did not stop and continued to talk. Another bad fact was that in playing, the footballers kept shouting swear words, which was not good when playing next to young boys who should not hear the bad language.

currently have no utility provision at the wood, and we have to rely on tractor PTO, petrol generator and off-site re-charging, to supply our energy needs. In the medium term, the business will need a proper source of electric power, especially for lighting, electric tools and battery charging. We wish to run an environmentally friendly operation, and having explored our renewable energy options, wind appears far the most suitable option, hence this application. In addition to satisfying our energy needs, the plan is to connect to the grid in order to gain income through energy generation. If the ballpark figures with which we have been supplied prove correct and all goes ahead smoothly, we hope to be in a position to provide free educational facilities to local primary schools.
For the technical and/or curious of you, the application is for one Endurance 50kW turbine to be sited at the NW corner of the wood on a mast 25-36m high (approx. 1⁄4 the size of the wind farm turbines to the east). This should generate somewhere around 1 40,000- 1 80,000kW hours clean electricity per annum. If you want more information, or wish to discuss the plan with me, feel free. I have mock-up 'visualisations' of the turbine from surrounding viewpoints, which you can look at.
For those of you who may be unhappy at this news I am sorry. Any of you who feel minded to lend your suppo to the scheme I would of course be delighted to hear from you!
Keep warm,

I wasn't able to use the scan as - well it looked like a scan! Could we use your's, please? Would you be happy with this going to print? We will be making the book at the reprographicsoffice, itwillbeastaplebound A5 production.
Let me know your thoughts, would be great to hear from you.
