What's happening now? We are very pleased to report that we have recently been able to send £2,000 towards the development of the Skills Training Centre. Thanks to several successful fund raising events we have been able to send money to do work on the admin area including an area where students can gather and eat. There is still more to do in this area and we are looking forward to hearing how the Institute for Computer Studies, as it is now called in Newton, progresses as students enrol in September. Our schools in Olney are continuing the links with their schools in Newton in various ways. As communications improve, albeit very slowly by UK standards more information is being exchanged and photographs received. We are hoping for another teacher exchange in the near future.
What next? Having successfully completed the reconstruction of a Water Well for the village we have recently been sent a request for Public Conveniences or Public Latrines as we would understand the concept. The Second Headman of the village, Mohammed Sesay writes "Public toilets are not visible in our community and people are in the habit of defecating round the environment which leads to major health problems. Last year the community lost 15 of its Inhabitants to cholera." Momoh has submitted a detailed budget for two sets, a Ladies and a Gents of course.
