Physiotherapy for Neck Pain
Hello, I am Eileen Lewis, I have a BSc in Physiotherapy and also am a qualified Acupuncturist with over 20 years experience. Over the next few months I will be discussing a variety of problems commonly experienced, from neck and back pain, to joint pains and soft tissue strains and sprains. This month I would like to cover neck pain.
A high proportion of the population will suffer from neck pain at some point in their lives. This can be quite debilitating making everyday activities very difficult. The symptoms often radiate from the neck to other areas including; headaches and migraines, shoulder, arm, and hand pain and sometimes pins and needles. The symptoms may originate from the vertebral joints the nerves or
the
surrounding
muscles and
fascia. As a
physio I often see patients with these symptoms and after a thorough examination am able to establish the cause of the problem. This then allows me to give the appropriate postural advice, exercises, and any other treatment necessary to alleviate the source of the problem and ultimately the symptoms. Other physio treatments I commonly use for neck pain may involve soft tissue techniques, myofascial release, joint mobilisations, ultrasound or acupuncture.
Physiotherapy can help to diagnose the source of the pain and treat accordingly. If any of these symptoms are troubling you then give me a call on 01234 881400 and I will be happy to help.
