FESTIVAL OF TRANSPORT
This year’s Festival of Transport is being held over the late May Bank Holiday weekend of Saturday 25th to Monday 27th, at Whites Nurseries, Clay Lane, Earls Barton which is just off junction 10 of the A45 between Wellingborough and Northampton. The post code for the venue is NN6 0EP, for all you satnav users. The festival is open each day from 10am to 5pm, and the admission charges are: adult £5 senior citizens and children £3 and family (2 adults + 2 children) £13; with children under five free.
This is our third year of running and our exhibit numbers are well up on last year at the time of writing this. We will be happy to hear from anyone wishing to enter a vehicle – we accept most forms of transport and there is no restriction to age, we aim to show transport through the ages – and we
also have space available for trade, charity and craft stands. Just ring us on 01604 811633, or download a form from our website: www.festivaloftransport.net and send to us at the address on the form. There is also public camping available for anyone wishing to come for two or three days over the
weekend, once again contact us on the above phone number for more information.
We have an exciting new addition this year in the form of vehicle - driver - pedestrian safety, with two drivers from international logistics company Gist bringing an articulated lorry to give their Road Safety Demonstration. This will then be used to show people the limited vision that truck drivers have in certain areas around their vehicles, and how several cars or bikes can be ‘lost’ in the blind spots both behind and at the sides. You will have a chance to sit in the cab, and talk to Jason and Kevin, and learn more about the demands of driving these large vehicles that are so common on our roads these days. They currently go to schools in their depot area, which is Hemel Hempstead, and give talks etc to the children, and the success of the uptake from the schools has resulted in Gist starting to roll this out to other depots around the UK, so making this a unique opportunity.
The Fire and Rescue Show will also be returning for it’s second year, and we hope to have another good turn out of fire appliances across the years, with demonstrations of the type of incidents that the fire service deal with on 999 calls on an everyday basis.
