Young Enterprise: 50 years and still going strong
Young Enterprise is a popular business experience for young people and has reached its 50th anniversary this academic year. Schools from around Milton Keynes enter teams to compete locally and the teams produce a company from scratch and sell products or services to try and be the best business and run in the most professional way.
Ousedale School has entered teams for a number of years and this year, there are three groups of Year 12 students hoping to run a successful business. These three teams: ‘Lightning’, ‘Rock N Roll’ and ‘Zoosdale’ are currently working hard to devise, develop and produce a new product to sell at local craft fairs during the coming months. Each member of a team is given a vital role from Finance to Marketing and HR to IT. A managing director takes on the role of the “boss”, providing guidance and leadership to the whole team. The whole experience feels very realistic as each team member buys shares in the company and is expected to organise their own individual responsibilities both inside and outside the school environment. However, help is at hand with a business advisor ready to aid the team with their plans.
It can be hard working in a team and people can disagree on ideas and products. Our team had originally chosen to be a photography company, QuoPix, but after many discussions and debates, the company what it is, come along to the numerous craft fairs in the coming months and look out for our ‘Rock N Roll’ stall. These include Dickens of a Christmas on the 9th December, and the Young Enterprise Trade Fair on the 26th January. Look out for the other teams from Ousedale at these events too! Matt Turner, Quopix
Hello all fans of King Rat. As you may know panto season is upon us and once again I shall be trying to take over London - well not just London - the whole world really. With my little Rat Army which I have taken from the ranks of the Olney Drama School this year, we shall be causing mayhem and once again will be up against Dick Whittington and his Cat...aaaah a cat!
seat venue. And all you children will get the chance to come up on stage (if you want) and join the Dame in the sing song.
As a baddie, I’m not looking for sympathy. You are quite welcome to boo me as I come on stage with my little rat army, and of course equally you are quite welcome to cheer the others. If you want. Pa! There’s Dick Whittington and the Cat ... aaaah. Plus Dick’s mother Dame Sarah, and silly old Barrow Boy Billy, the Alderman,, oh and of course we mustn’t forget the beautiful Alice, oh and Bow Bells with her wand, always trying to banish me. Oh here they all are, so you can look at them all. I’m the handsome one on the right.
I wonder who will get the final custard pie in the face... ..Mmmm.
I’m told that there are a vast amount of custard pies this year. More than any other panto they say. I wonder who will get most of the custard pies in their faces! Well the only way is to come along to The Venue at Walton in Milton Keynes and find out. We will all be there from the 19th - the 30th December this year. Oh yes there’s plenty of fun. A live band, dancers, explosions, slapstick and all at this new 380
Dear Editor
I thought readers of Phonebox might like to see the result of a second bout of heavy rain in the Olney area taken this morning (Sunday 25th November). The image is from Lavendon looking back towards Olney and shows how the flood plains have taken the brunt of the Great Ouse after breaking its banks.
This natural plain - thankfully not built upon - has surely prevented many homes being damaged that might otherwise have been affected.
All the best Kevin (Kevin Viney Photography)
