TENNIS
November American Tournament
A round robin event was enjoyed by all on a lovely day down at Olney
Gibbs and Graham Cole beat Jo Bedward and Ted Barnes (see photo).
Adult teams
There was another exciting derby match when the E played the F team. It threw up a shock re- sult with the F team winning due to the efforts of Liz Brewster, Steve Bateman, Nick Hardy and Jo Bedward who beat Stuart and Ruth Ayling, Steve Day and Ruth Froom (see photo of the F ladies) The F team then came up against a tough OU team who are winning the division easily and lost 2-6 (see photo).
Five members of Gilpin tennis club (based in Emberton) were part of a team representing the Veterans Tennis Club of G.B. In a recent trip to Spain.
Club just outside Marbella and included the men’s Spanish champion in the 60 age group.
All players played in at least 2 matches per day over the weekend, including singles, men’s, ladies and mixed doubles.
at 11/10 to G.B. the second day saw the G.B. team romp to a 25/15 victory.

The D team had a great win against David Lloyd, winning 7-1 while the C team lost against Wolverton.
The B team won very convincingly against Great Linford, winning 7-1 thanks to Gun Chui Hwang, Simon Barter, Lynda Baker and Jo Weatherill (see photo). They then pulled out a good draw against Stony Stratford after Tom Field’s back gave way but Simon Barter, Sarah Wilkinson and Jo Weatherill prevailed.
Juniors
The Olney teams are doing well at this stage of the season. As we went t6o press, the Olney Bears and Tigers are leading the 9 and Under league, The Olney Cheetahs are leading the 10 and under league, Olney A are leading the
12 and under league and Olney A are leading the 14 and Under Boys league. Well done to all the players.
Olney Juniors, Daniel and Susie Cornwell were in action at the Riverside tournaments in Bedford. Daniel won the Riverside u14 tourna- ment (saving 4 match points against him and beating two higher rated players in the semi and grade 3 (Regional) tournament also at River- side; again beating higher rated players in the
Susie was runner up in the consolation cup in the Grade 3 u12 girls in the same competition. She played in an u14 girls at Riverside beating
