Dear Editor
I can understand the reasons for the loud bangs but my animal is so shocked he just stands shaking and drooling for hours – to him it is a war zone.
Thank you to all the people who came to my Open Houseʼ and to those kind ladies who helped me with the refreshments on both days.
Why is it not possible for humans to enjoy their firework displays without having those huge explosions causing horrific bangs and terrifying most of the animal population?
If these symptoms occured in babies and children there would be an outcry from parents and quite right too. Remember our pets are our children, particularly to those who live alone.
Many thanks to you all! Joan Norton
Many pet owners have to resort to buying tranquilizers from the vet to help calm their animals on bonfire night.
Dear Editor
But how does one know when to use the tranquilizers as the fireworks are being let off weeks before and after November 5th; also at Christmas, New Year and birthdays, etc.
Vets advise products that tranquilize your pet, to take the edge off the stress and panic attacks, but we canʼt keep our animals prepared for weeks at a time.
Through this column I would like to send a heartfelt thanks to two very special people who we never properly managed to thank, for coming to my assistance on the evening of the 16th November when I passed out outside the Four Pillars Restaurant. They stayed with me, kept talking to me and kept me warm until the paramedics arrived. Many thanks also to the manager of the Four Pillars Restaurant.
Not only domestic pets are affected, but also farm animals out in the fields and wildlife must also be terrified. I have known of animals having fatal heart attacks from the stress suffered.
Please, please, lovers of fireworks, keep it to November 5th and no loud bangs to scare the old folk and our pets.
Anyone organising these events please give a thought to all this stress caused and refrain from creating these explosions. Surely you can enjoy the fireworks without them.

On behalf of all animals and pet owners everywhere!
I felt it is now an appropriate time for me to write about the potential proposal for a significant commercial development primarily in Moulsoe Parish, part of Sherington Ward. Since July, when I attended an initial presentation in Milton Keynes Councilʼs offices, I have kept in communication with Berkeley Strategic the company which is considering submitting a proposal in the future. The interaction has been on the basis
Dear Editor
I am an elderly resident to Olney living with my dog. It is 17th November and yet again a burst of fireworks (12 days after the 5th) has frightened the life out of me and my beloved dog.
In 2005 Lucy also set up a free veterinary programme using a mobile clinic to help hundreds of working animals who work so hard for so little.
Yours sincerely, Lia
My ʻOpen House Weekendʼ in October raised a total of £350 in aid of “Donkeys in the Holylandʼ. This is a charity run by Lucy Jenson who moved to Israel in 2000 to set up this safe haven and dedicated to the care of working and abandoned donkeys in Israel and the Palastinian territories.
