We have had so much fun with Friday Afternoon Teas in St Laud’s Church, Sherington. It has been everything we had dreamed of... a chance for us to wind down at the end of our busy weeks and to get to know each other better. Our huge thanks go to Marianne’s mother in Kent who lent us her delightful crockery, to Evelyn and Marie for their kind donations of crockery, to everyone who has baked scrummy cakes, to Lara and Ella for serving teas, to Caroline for our beautiful logo, to Chloe and her team for our fantastic advertising signs... to everyone who has supported us.
We have Jeff who generously bakes for us but is unable to attend due to work constraints. We have traced family trees linked with the church. We have welcomed visitors from France who were interested in the history St Laud’s has with their country.
Our children have had a great time with button art, drawing, and playing tag together around the outside of the church!
It has been so much more than I imagined too... with our visitors’ help and knitters knitting as far afield as Leeds, Marjorie in Newport Pagnell has kindly been able to sew our first blanket together for Lathbury Manor Residential Care Home. They came to collect it last Friday!
Lathbury Manor Residential Care Home is very proud of its long standing history of providing services to the community of Newport Pagnell and surrounding villages. The House has stood in Lathbury for over 182 years, serving many purposes during that time. These have included a coaching inn, and a farm house. Famous paintings from the galleries in London were stored in its basements during WWII. Today the care home serves at least three purposes. First and foremost, they are privileged to be entrusted to provide care and support to the elderly and frail of Newport Pagnell and the local area, and to the elderly relatives of people who have moved into the area. Secondly they are an employer of nearly 30 staff from the local community and source their supplies and services from predominantly local suppliers and contractors. This means they are doing their small bit for the local economy. Thirdly, without the existence of the care home, the future of the beautiful grade 2 listed building in which the care home operates might be less than certain. Providing the building with an economic purpose means they can maintain this small but important part of the heritage and landscape of the local community. If you are interested in helping set up or supporting a Friends of Lathbury Manor group, to help support residents, staff and the building, please do contact Jon, Eric or Sonia on 01908 613367.
It’s amazing what a cuppa, a slice of homemade cake and your company can do! Do come and see us again in the beautiful St Laud’s Church, Sherington - bring friends and family!
