Dear Editor
Olney Archaeological Society
Regarding the recent May council elections I would like to make several observations concerning the Olney result:
Are holding a short AGM on Tuesday 19th June at 10am in the Olney Centre followed by a Midsummer Talk “The Grafton Portrait of Shakespeare” by Keith Harry.
Conservatives first, Labour second, UKIP third and Lib Dems last!
• The results show that Olney so far remains an overwhelmingly Conservative area with one Tory family now occupying both District Council Seats and 3 out of 15 (20%) of the town council seats.
This is the intriguing story of the finding, the history and research into a painting found at the beginning of the twentieth century, at Grafton Regis (near Towcester) and believed by many eminent people, including Dr Harry, to be that of Shakespeare.
• In Olney former supporters have punished the Lib Dems for breaking their pledges and bolstering up the Tory led Coalition. Let us hope that this result will finally put an end to the local Fib-Dem scurrilous mock election forecasts and “Only the Lib- Dems can beat the Tories” clap trap.
All welcome, followed by cake, biscuits, coffee/tea. Enquiries 01234 711627 (2012/13 programme will be available).
I am predicting further change here in Olney.
Nationally IFS estimate that only 12% of the planned Coalition public spending cuts have been implemented. As these cuts increase, inevitably there will be a huge impact on the poorest. Yet at the same time more than 13,000 of the richest people in the country are now more than £40,000.00 per year better off as a direct effect of this government’s income tax changes.
Swish Party
I can’t believe that the grossly unfair nature of this government will not reinvigorate the left!
To be held at the Olney Centre on Friday 6th July 7-9 pm.
Best regards
