NIMBY
“we had to be a bit tenacious to outpitch the others sites (Rutland Water and Grafham were the front runners for a time), but I am so pleased to have brought it home, it will be a tremendous boost to the retailers and traders of Olney”
Emberton Park provides overflow sailing facilities for London 2012
Mostly in these articles I try and write about something or somewhere local that you may not yet have discovered, a secret gem that needs sharing. Emberton Park probably doesn’t fit that bill. You would pretty much have to live as a hermit to not know it’s there. But what I guarantee you don’t know is that come August this year, Emberton Park is going to be playing a supporting role in the coming Olympic Games.

MARK LANCASTER, MP
The final negotiations, led by MP, Mark Lancaster, are still underway, but I have heard that we will be hosting some of the sailing events for the junior teams. The Olympic Committee Health & Safety Team decided, rather late in the day, that the Weymouth and Portland off-shore sites were just too dangerous for the younger Olympic participants. Mark Lancaster, a keen sailer and supporter of Emberton Park, was quick to promote our local facility as a safe, ready to roll, venue.
Reasons why the Park found itself in top spot include: ample parking facilities; a resident sailing club to provide marshalls, safety and equipment; and good access via a major trunk road.
We could see up to 2000 visitors a day during the three key events to be held here (junior women’s laser radial, junior men’s laser radial, junior windsurfing events, and still to be decided the junior women’s dinghy racing). I for one, can’t wait. HB
