WoodlandTrust’s ‘Jubilee Woods’ project
Will you be ready for the most important event of the year:The Olney Raft & Duck Race?
Volunteers from around the region helped out in the Woodland Trust’s ‘Jubilee Woods’ project to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s historic 2012 Diamond Jubilee on Mothering Sunday up at Ekeney Woods. Millions of people across the UK are involved in the planting of in total 6 million trees. Pictured here are some of the families who helped out.
2012 is going to be a very busy year. We have the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, European Football Championships and the Olympics. However there is one even more important event for Olney, the annual Duck and Raft Races! This year they will take place on Sunday 24th June.
Last year the Two Brewers women’s team raised over £500 for a breast cancer charity.
Last year was a fabulous day, the race winners missing out on the course record by a just few seconds. The weather was beautiful and the large crowds at the race finished really enjoyed our mini fun day with stalls, side-shows and children’s fair.
The
race categories are Men, Women, and Under 21s. As already mention there also is the Most Entertaining raft. If you wish to have a mixed sex crew it will have to be entered in the Men’s section. It would be lovely to see pubs, school PTAs, sporting clubs all competingagainst each other.
