Royal British Legion, olney Branch seeking new members
Entering its second year of running, the Festival of Transport will be held at Whites Nurseries, Earls Barton on the weekend of Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May 2012. Its usual weekend is the late Spring Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May, but with this having been moved back a week to coincide with the Queens Diamond Jubilee and there are going to be a lot of events on for that, we decided to keep to the “normal” dates for this year and so the event will be over two days and not the usual three.
I am currently Chair of the Royal British Legion, Olney Branch and would be very grateful if you could put the RBL in the clubs and society section of your esteemed publication Phonebox.
As the name suggests, this is a festival of all things that move, transport goods or people or anything really! So from go-karts to military, motorbikes to tractors, cars to commercial, not forgetting full sized and miniature steamers, the list is varied and full. Also there is no age limit, so from the earliest right up to modern day we aim to have a large range and fascinating array of transport through the ages.
Love the Phonebox and keep up the good work
We also have a show within a show with the Earls Barton Fire and Rescue Show having their own area and staging their own display of fire engines of all sorts and sizes, and giving demonstrations of how they operate in emergency situations of cutting vehicles and putting fires out in them. It will be very visual – and probably a bit noisy at times! – but a chance to see these everyday heroes at work. A fuller account will appear in a later issue.
As it’s likely to come into use in 2012 what about naming the new recreation field The Olympic Field?
The Festival is open from 10am to 5pm each day, with free parking and facilities for the disabled. The entry fee – which includes the Fire and Rescue show – is £5 adult, £3 senior citizens, £3 child and £13 family (two adults and two children).
why does the clock tower need a home?
Last year we were hit by bad weather, a lot of wind and rain – must have been one of those rare occasions for the rain last summer – and so hope for better this year. For anyone wishing to enter, or to have a trade or craft stall, or just to volunteer to help please ring 01604 811633 and speak to myself or my wife Hazel. We look forward to seeing you there.
Admittedly it is not in the centre of town, but it is on one of the more interesting buildings. Can the public not appreciate it in its current location? I doubt whether many people look above the top of the shop front windows in the centre of town. If it is a problem that it is on a block of private apartments, which of the buildings in the town centre is not private? At the moment I can only think of the Museum, which may or may not be publicly owned. The bus shelter is certainly not a suitable spot.

Dear Editor
I think it should be called The Jubilee Field as it is Jubilee Year.
