P. 58
Dear Editor
I write having read the letter on page 28 of your February edition regarding dog mess; I can sympathise
with this dog owner and I have noticed the very same problem in the West Street area of Olney.
When walking my dog I frequently have to avoid large deposits. It is nothing but laziness that owners do not clear
up after their dogs and in this case I have witnessed the dog and owner in question on more than one occasion
and there simply isn’t any intention to pick the mess up.
We all know, having accidently stepped in mess, it is not pleasant cleaning it from the sole of a shoe – it’s even less pleasant cleaning it from between the paws of your dog! We have a very good provision of dog waste bins in Olney, but may I
be so forward to suggest the Town Council should install ‘poo bag’ dispensers on the side of each bin? That way these lazy dog owners who seem to think it is their right to leave their mess for someone else to clean up have absolutely no excuse for their filthy actions and can hopefully then be dealt with.
Perhaps the law will allow them to be fined – the funds from this can then go to pay for the dispensers? I, and I am sure many other responsible dog owners, are fed up with having a bad name – just because of the lazy few.
Yours sincerely Andrew, Olney

Re: Letter from valerie Jayne and Ian farmer, feb edition
In some respects the letter is almost laughable “bizarre anti-Europe rant”, “a rather sinister air”, alienate large section of readers”, what a load of rubbish!
As for not mentioning Clegg, I would think that only about 5 or 6% of your readers would think he was worth mentioning.
I think the large majority of your readers say “Carry on Ron, give us a wide range of subjects and viewpoints not juse CE school nativity plays.

PS And amusing letters
Dear Phonebox
I have a degree of sympathy with Valerie Jayne and Ian Farmer (Phonebox February 2012) but I think they are taking Geoff Bacchus far too seriously, no one else does! Every once in a while he whisks off a self indulgent missive to Phonebox in order to air his extreme, unbalanced, sometimes offensive and usually potty views on all manner of subject matter, fortunately it has had little impact save as in this case, occasionaly to irritate. My sympathy is because I am dissapponted that Geoff gets so much unchallenged space for his opinion which together with the free advertising afforded to our elected officials so that often what is an otherwise excellent organ, begins to look like a house magazine for the Coalition! However the solution is, as the editor pointed out, in our own hands, we must engage in the debate and take the opportunity afforded by the magazine to express our own views. For my part, in this argument I am strongly pro EU, for all its faults and it has many, it is a force for good and this country is better off for being part of it, despite us often appearing to have one leg out of the door.
Yours sincerely
Mike Stinton, Emberton
Dear Editor
Regarding your reply to the writer who objected to Geoff Bacchus’ “Man the Lifeboats”, I am with you all the way. GB is a breath of (controversial) fresh air! In our overly sanitised, politically correct world we NEED your free press.
