Table Tennis for the Over Fifties
TTOFS was first started in May 2007 after being advertised in the Phonebox. The club continues to flourish and now meets twice a week on Mondays and Fridays from 10.00am to 11.30am at the Olney Centre. Members pay a fee of £2.00 per session on the day they attend. New members are welcome to join.
The club has a happy atmosphere and several of the present members have continued to play since the club first started. Most of the members attending are quite competent players, but anyone who is interested, or who hasn’t played for some time, should not be discouraged. Coaching can be made available on Fridays at an extra cost for those who would like to improve their skills.
The annual tournaments were held recently and will continue to be held on the last two Mondays in January in the future. Matches were lively and there were some close results. Singles winners retained their trophies, but the doubles had new winners. The results were as follows:
Ladies singles – winner: Audrey Dempsey, runner-up: Sheila French. Mens singles – winner: Martyn Glass, runner-up: John Cockerel. Mixed doubles - winners: Will Moat and Audrey Dempsey, runners-up: Brian Franklin and Rita Daggett.
Members are shown before the start of the tournament and also the winners can be seen receiving their trophies from chairperson of the club Carol Clarke.
Calling All Carers
On the first Thursday of every month, 2pm till 4pm, Carers Milton Keynes and Cobbs Garden Patient Participation Group hosts a group in the Olney Centre for carers who look after a disabled, unwell or frail family member or friend. Carers come to have a chat with others about everything and anything with a cup of tea or coffee to ward off the winter chill.
Carers Milton Keynes will be inviting therapists, specialists and people of interest to join them at their monthly group.

Carers week we are putting on a pampering afternoon for all carers, free of charge, to give them a bit of well-earned relaxation.
We also will be joined on a regular basis by a
representative from the Alzheimer’s Society who
will be able to support and give specialist advice to
those who are experiencing caring for someone
with dementia.
