90 Years Young
On 29th November last, Mrs May (Connie) Carmichael of Pegasus Court, Olney, celebrated her 90th birthday at a party attended by family, friends and neighbours.
Daughter-in-law Sue Carmichael had arranged four baskets of red roses and yellow carnations for the occasion. In her younger days May was a champion flower arranger, and had suggested the lovely combination of flowers.
After speeches by neighbour Tony Ball and son Tom Carmichael, May’s daughter and son-in-law Cath and Oliver Barton entertained the party with a selection of songs, including “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” and “A Cockeyed Optimist” from the show South Pacific.
As May blew out the large candle on the beautifully-decorated chocolate birthday cake, everyone sang Happy Birthday – twice! Then May and her guests enjoyed a delicious tea of sandwiches, scones and home- made cakes prepared by family friend Christine Sturgess of Pavenham and her chef son Richard.
May thanked everyone for coming and said afterwards that she’d never had a birthday party like it.
