NEWPORT PAGNELL TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB
On Saturday 3rd December Newport Pagnell Town won through to the last 32 of the FA Vase for the first time in the club's history. A crowd of double the normal size at Willen Road watched Newport's 3-1 win over Godmanchester Rovers in the third round.
The visitors went ahead in the third minute with a scrappy goal from a badly defended corner, and it was not until the 26th minute of an even first half that a Dean Buss header brought Newport level. A Dom Lawless goal early in the second half gave Newport the lead and they did most of the attacking after that, but Godmanchester still looked dangerous on the break and it was not until Matt Broomes added the third goal midway through the second half that the home supporters could start to relax a little.
In the fourth round, on Saturday 21st January, Newport will be at home to Ashington, from Northumberland, famous as the birthplace of Bobby and Jack Charlton. Ashington are currently 8th in the Northern League, but with games in hand on all the teams above them. Comments on the Ashington club web site suggest that they could bring up to 100 supporters, so Newport need lots of support for this game.
COME ALONG TO WILLEN ROAD ON 21st JANUARY AND SUPPORT NEWPORT PAGNELL TOWN IN THIS IMPORTANT GAME. (3pm Kickoff)
In the UCL Premier Division Newport had an excellent 4-1 win away at Peterborough Northern Star, who led the league until that defeat. Two weeks without league action since then have dropped them to 7th, but they have games in hand on three of the teams above them.
Forthcoming home matches:
Saturday 14th January: Irchester United (UCL Prem Div) Saturday 21st January: ASHINGTON (FA Vase 4th Round) Saturday 28th January: Deeping Rangers (UCL Prem Div)
