Zumba Whatisit?
Zumba is the largest dance fitness program in the world, based on a Latin- inspired dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez in Colombia during the 1990s. Zumba involves dance and aerobic elements. Zumba’s choreography incorporates hip-hop, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo, martial arts, and some Bollywood and belly dance moves. Squats and lunges are also included. Zumba does not charge licensing fees to gyms or fitness centers.
It’sOriginandHistory
In 1986, Perez forgot his tape of
aerobics music for a class he was teaching. He took the tapes available in his car—consisting of traditional Latin salsa and merengue music—and improvised a class using this non- traditional aerobics music. After the initial success in Colombia, he took the class to the United States in 1999, where he teamed up with cofounder Alberto Perlman and a childhood friend Alberto Aghion. The trio produced a demo reel, and the concept was picked up and licensed by a company called Fitness Quest to create a direct marketing campaign and a line of home videos.
Exercise
Zumba exercises include music with fast and slow rhythms and resistance training. The music comes from the following dance styles: cumbia, salsa, merengue, mambo, flamenco, chachacha, reggaeton, soca, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, hip hop music, axé music and tango. There are seven different types of classes for different levels of age and exertion, including Aqua Zumba, which is based in the swimming pool.
WARNING... ZUMBA IS ADDICTIVE!
Hi, my name is Kelly and Im a ZUMBA
addict... there, said it! I found Zumba 2
years ago and have been hocked ever
since. Zumba reinvents the rules of a
fitness class, fusing international
rhythms and dance steps – primarily Latin
to including salsa, merengue as well as
many others, in an aerobics setting. Unlike
Aerobics however, you find yourself
smiling loads in Zumba. I don't remember doing that in a step class. And the music is fantastic! The best part is that it's dancing and I'd forgotten how much fun that is. There aren't many opportunities to dance when you're an adult. When you're a sober adult! Enough said. Its also a great way to start/return to fitness. Id love you to come and join a class or find me on Facebook/fitnessmk for some fun, a chat and money saving cards! Besitos Kelly
Inspired Fitness celebrates 20 years in Newport Pagnell
‘Inspired Fitness’ classes in Newport Pagnell have just celebrated their 20th anniversary. Taught by Debbie Twigger, a trained dancer and qualified teacher in fitness, yoga and recently Zumba, from starting with just one Aerobics class there are a variety of classes held during the week, including yoga and pilates for improved strength and posture.
She states, “Try my Zumba classes which have all the latin rhythms and music of a traditional class but I teach simpler moves so the routines can be picked up by all, including beginners. I hope to still be teaching for the next twenty years too!”
