The Lions Den - Motorama 2011
Motorama or BOATarama? You could easily have thought it the latter when the heavens opened on Sunday 12th June turning what was a promising event into a wet and soggy experience for all involved.
With over 135 cars booked in advance (our best ever), it was ominous that by 10am we had only half a dozen vehicles in the square and things weren’t looking good for our efforts to raise funds for our charity account and our ‘Partner Charity’, Macmillan Cancer Support.
A quick re-plan saw us positioning most of the vehicles within the Market Square, helping make life easier for our walking visitors and
giving the event a better profile.
By opening time, the drains had really swollen, but so too had our numbers, and we were delighted that over 70 owners had braved the weather to help us make the day a total success.
A healthy number of visitors, too, ventured out to see the assembled cars and although few hung around long, it was long enough for us to collect a goodly sum in our buckets which, combined with the added rainwater, has probably made our treasurer the first of our members to be involved in a money laundering exercise as he dried out the takings. At the
time of writing, our accounts for the day haven’t been finalised but we reckon we are on target to exceed £500 which is a fantastic figure, given the weather.
Our show, which relies heavily on advance sponsorship (see our website for details of those companies who help us financially) sees the cars judged in 5 classes, one of which is the public’s “Car of the Day”.
The Trophies were awarded to the winners by Sandra Dibling, Fundraising Manager with Macmillan Cancer Care and you can see the various winners below.
Wine TASTingS Are fairly commonplace these days but one of our Lions, noticing an ever increasing range of malt whisky appearing in the town’s licensed outlets, will be running Malt & More, a tutored whisky tasting experience to help bring the finer aspects of Scotland’s national Drink to the good folks of
